Paul David Ross

Mr. Paul David Ross, age 88 of Clarkesville passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 4, 2010 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Devon O’Kelly and Rev. Jerry Vandiver officiating. Interment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Duluth.

Mr. Ross was born on October 20, 1921 in Hart County, Kentucky to Frank Ross and Mattie Lee Burd. He served with Honor in the United States Army during WWII earning a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. He was the former owner of the PennySaver Grocery in Mulberry. Florida and moved to Habersham County in 1999, where he was a member of Friendly Mission Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hatfield Ross.

Survivors include his son, David Ross, Duluth; daughters, Jeannie Rawdin, Sautee; Sharon Williams, Pansy, Alabama, special friends the Betty Jones family. Mr. Ross is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00am until the funeral hour.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Friendly Mission Baptist Church.

Mary Lucille Brady Hefner

Mrs. Mary Lucille Brady Hefner, age 89 of Cleveland passed away Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at Bell Minor Nursing Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Hefner was born in Cleveland to the late Asa C. and Pearl Stovall Brady. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hefner, daughter Brenda Dorsey, sister, Violet Edge and brothers, Albert Brady and Harley Brady. She worked as a clerk for Agriculture Stabilizing & Conservation Service and was a member of Blue Creek Baptist Church where she served as secretary for a number of years.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law: Stanley & Lanora Hefner, Cleveland; grandson & wife: Michael & Amber Dorsey, Cleveland and great grandsons: Wyatt Dorsey and Garrett Dorsey, both of Cleveland.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 3, 2010 at Blue Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Carter, Rev. Phillip Robinson and Rev. Dave Fortner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Opal Roberts

Opal Anita Nix Roberts, age 84 of Cleveland, passed away Sunday August 29, 2010 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Roberts was born August 13, 1926 in White County to the late J.L. Sr. and Tannie Westmoreland Nix. She was a member of Mt. Yonah Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Roberts, brothers, Glenn Nix and Ray Nix, sisters, Louise Satterfield and Lois Buffington.

The family wants to express a special thanks to Eva Nix who was a caregiver to our mother and to Compassionate Hospice for their love and support.

Survivors include her daughter, Trisha Williams, Commerce; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Rudy Wooten, Gainesville; Angela and Bill Clements, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Serenity Whiting, Niles, Michigan; brother, J.L. Nix, Cleveland; sister, Gertrude Reed, Cleveland, 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 PM Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Barrett Chapel. The Rev. John Yarbrough and Rev. Doug Merck will officiate. Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park.

The family will receive friends 6-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
