November 11, 1927 – April 28, 2010 Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Ralph Edwin Olson, age 82,of Cleveland. Mr. Olson passed away on Wednesday April 28, 2010 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00pm Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Cleveland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Huycke officiating.
Mr. Olson was born on November 11, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Frank Olson and Irene Bouchey Olson. He attended Florida Southern College and was a Corporal in the U.S. Army. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, and was a Past President of Shriners and PTA President. He was a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church and was a retired accountant. Mr. Olson and his wife, Juanita, had lived in White County since 2001, moving from Lakeland, Florida.
Mr. Olson is survived by his wife, Juanita Galloway Olson, Cleveland; daughters and sons in law, Cheryl and Howard Cole, Land O’ Lakes, FL; Diane and Mike Olson Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Joshua Olson, Kimberly Olson, Aaron Cole, Abigail Cole, Victoria Cole, Holden Starling, Juan and Britney Diaz, Chelsea Starling; great-grandchildren, Xavier Diaz and Nayelia Starling.
Flowers will be acknowledged or memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center or the American Cancer Society

September 2, 1930 – April 27, 2010 Mr. Thurman Underwood, age 79 of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Underwood was born September 2, 1930 in Cleveland to the late Fletcher and Flora Presley Underwood. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and a member of White Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Hicks, Nelda Caudell, Ella Marie Wilson, brothers, Ed Underwood and Hoyt Underwood. Survivors include his daughters, Elaine Mize, Gainesville; Judy Howell, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie and James Keith, Gainesville; Betty and Billy McConnell, Gainesville; Elizabeth and Scott Goodman, Cleveland; mother of his daughters, Jean Underwood, Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and George McEntire, Cornelia; brother and sister-in-law, Earnest and Charlotte Underwood, Cornelia ; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Donna and Seth Parks, Gainesville; grandsons, Daniel Meeks and Caleb Goodman, both of Gainesville; granddaughter, Mary Goodman, Cleveland; great-grandson, Kaden Parks, Gainesville; great-granddaughters, Emmy Lou Parks, Breelyn Parks, Jordan Meeks, Lilly Chapman, all of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. August 5, 1950 – April 26, 2010 Mrs. Hazel Etris Garrison, age 59 of Cleveland, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Garrison was born in Hall County and was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Jarrard Etris and brother, Larry Etris. She was a homemaker and member of Town Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Tommy Garrison, Cleveland; daughters and sons in law, Missy and William Miller, Wanda and Mike Adkins, all of Cleveland; daughter, Dana Garrison, Cleveland; father, Grady Etris, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Billie Lynn Miller, Spud Miller, both of Cleveland; brother and special friend, Don Etris and Evelyn, Dahlonega; brothers and sisters in law, Billy and Janice Etris, Dahlonega; Wayne and Bonnie Etris, Gainesville; Stanley and Julie Etris, Cleveland; sisters and brothers in law, Dottie and Tommy Holloway, Cleveland, Susie and Allen Webb, Dahlonega; numerous nieces and nephews. Martha Hazel Head

October 11, 1926 – April 25, 2010 Hazel Standridge Head passed away peacefully at her home in Clermont on Sunday afternoon, April 25th, 2010 after a long illness. She was surrounded at her bedside by her children, grandson, other family members and friends. Hazel was known by those who loved her as a caring, generous and kind woman, a blessing to her family and friends. Born October 11, 1926 in Commerce, Georgia to Boyd and Ola Mae Standridge, she was the fourth of eight children. She was married to Francis Marion (F.M.) Head for 26 years until his death in 1974. She provided him with exceptional love and care during his long struggle with ALS. She is survived by her children, Michael Head and wife Judy of Gainesville, Della Tolhurst of Gainesville, Richard Head of Clermont and Joel Head of Demorest. She had one grandson, of whom she was very proud, Ronnie Head of Gainesville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elease Crow and brothers Robert and Jess Standridge. She is survived by a brother, Wayne Standridge and sister Mrs. Doris Chambers (late Thomas F.) of Clermont, and sisters Mrs. Helen Butler (Bill) and Mrs. Jean Fields (Gerald) of Gainesville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be 1:30 Wednesday, April 28th at Concord Baptist Church in Clermont. The Rev. Jimmy McAdams will officiate. She will lie in state at the church from 1:00 to 1:30. Mrs. Hulsey was born November 24, 1933 in Cornelia to the late Martin and Vadie Woodall Free. She was a retired teacher with theWhite County Board of Education where she taught second grade. Mrs. Hulsey was a member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Telford Hulsey, brothers, Earl Free, Dewie Free, and Everett Free. October 8, 1927 – April 19, 2010 Jere Westmoreland, 82, of Helen passed away April 19, 2010 at Northeast GA Medical Center from a sudden illness. He was born on October 8,1927 on the Westmoreland Farm in Cleveland. He was the son of the late Paul and Beatrice Ash Westmoreland, (Daddy Paul and Mamma Bea). He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Paul Westmoreland Jr. as well as several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara Ann Westmoreland of Helen; his son, Jay P. Westmoreland and wife Kim of Cleveland; his daughter, Jere Lynn Westmoreland Whitfield and husband Matt of Cleveland; his stepsons, Leon Simmons and wife Jean of Cleveland, Richard Thacker of Robertstown; and his stepdaughter, Dona K. Burke of Helen and his sister June Parks of Cleveland. His grandchildren are Brandi Westmoreland Pilgrim of Blairsville, Cayci Jae, Emili, and Madison Westmoreland of Cleveland, Jayme Lea and Dalton Whitfield of Cleveland. Step-grandchildren are Sarah Brown of Cleveland, Christopher and Issac Thacker of Sautee and Robertstown and Jesse Huff of Perth Austrailia, and two great-grandchildren . He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion in Cleveland. He served as a Board member of the Peoples Bank, First National Bank and Regions Bank for many years. He served as an officer in the White County Lions Club and was a member of Cleveland Methodist Church . A celebration of his life will be held in the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Cleveland on Wednesday, April 21 at 4:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon and evening, April 20th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland is in charge of arrangements. - - - - - - - - - -
