DOT Works All Weekend on SR 365

08/09/2011

After decades of use, State Route 365 is under construction now. Georgia DOT is working with C.W. Matthews Contracting to resurface the roadway. The project will remove up to eight inches of damaged asphalt and lay down a new driving surface on State Route 365/US 23 from SR 52 in Hall County to the split at SR 17 and US 441 in Habersham County.

This weekend, one lane closure will be in place around the clock on State Route 365. During the day, one crew will continue installing the second or binder layer of asphalt from SR 105/Historic US 441 to SR 197. Overnight one lane will close for crews working on the northern end of the project, from SR 197 to the split at SR 17 and US 441. This crew is removing damaged asphalt down to eight inches and installing a new base layer.

This project involves three layers of asphalt. The base layer goes on bottom. The middle or second layer is the binder and the smooth driving surface is the top layer called the “topping.” As new pavement is laid it will be at different heights until both lanes are completed. Beware of the uneven pavement between the lanes.
